The fact that you are here visiting our website tells us how very important your friend’s good health is to you.

It has always been our philosophy at the Cat Clinic that a Wellness Visit should include far more than updating vaccinations. We look upon this time as a chance to evaluate your cat’s overall health and physical condition. It is also the time in which the doctor can make recommendations regarding your cat’s continued healthcare.

Every Wellness Visit includes:

  • A Complete Physical Exam including a Dental Exam.
• All vaccines your cat may require depending on age and lifestyle (Distemper/URI Virus Vaccine, Rabies Virus Vaccine, Feline Leukemia Virus Vaccine)
• An evaluation of your cat’s general health and possible recommendations for laboratory screening to detect common underlying conditions such as kidney or liver abnormalities, , diabetes, hyperthyroidism and urinary disease. If detected in the early stages, most of theseconditions can be cured or effectively managed.
• An evaluation of your cat’s weight and diet
• A determination of the most appropriate flea and intestinal parasite control
• An evaluation of your cat’s risk of heartworm disease and the most appropriate prevention method
• A determination of your cat’s exposure risk for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus infection.
Total Wellness Plan
We take the fact that you have chosen us very seriously and want to do our utmost to provide the best advice and healthcare for your cat. We feel an obligation to advise you, our client, as to what constitutes an optimum preventative health management program.

We have developed such a program.
Our Total Wellness Plan is based on recommendations of both the Academy of Feline Practitioners and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

When your cat is enrolled in the Total Wellness Plan, he or she will, first of all, receive the same services provided in the Wellness Visit. In addition, we will draw a small amount of blood to do an appropriate laboratory health screen, dependent on his or her age. This screen is designed to establish normal values for your cat at every age as well as detect abnormalities in the blood, which could indicate an early health problem.

By choosing the Total Wellness Plan, you are not only receiving the best preventative health care for your friend, you are saving money in the process. You will receive a 10% discount on all in-house professional services for the entire plan year, as well as on heartworm and flea preventative.

Approximately 11-20% of cats tested positive for Heartworm Disease in North Carolina. Therefore, we feel very strongly that all cats in our area should be on year-round heartworm protection.

Dental Prophylaxis (Cleaning)
Dental disease is a very serious frequently overlooked health problem that we see in clinical feline practice. Unfortunately, in most cases, by the time a caring owner suspects a problem with their cat’s mouth, usually there is some fairly advanced gum pathology in progress. Most cats over the age of 3 years have a significant amount of dental disease. The signs are bad breath, red or swollen gums and discolored teeth. These problems, if untreated, can lead to more serious medical problems including abscessed teeth, tooth loss and infections elsewhere in the body, and kidney disease.
Prevention is the key to healthy teeth and a healthy mouth. The existing tartar (mineralized plaque) must be treated by a professional dental cleaning for effective removal. We clean your cat’s teeth the very same way your dentist cleans yours, by using hand and ultrasonic scalers to remove tartar, then polishing them. Finally, we place a thin coating of fluoride gel on the teeth to help protect them from further disease.
The main difference is that, in order for us to do a thorough job, our patients must be anesthetized. We use Isoflurane inhalant anesthesia for all of our dentistries. This is the safest anesthesia available for animals (and people, too). After the dentistry, you can continue your cat’s dental care at home.

We so strongly believe in good dental hygiene that if one of our veterinarians recommends a dental cleaning, you will receive a 20% discount on all dental services if the cleaning is done within 30 days of the recommendation.
